DGFT Scrap Metal Inspection UK
Ruswal Global is a DGFT-accredited Pre-Shipment Inspection Agency providing specialist scrap metal inspections across the United Kingdom for exports to India. We carry out inspections directly at scrap yards and container loading sites prior to shipment, ensuring compliance with Indian DGFT regulations and helping exporters avoid customs delays, demurrage, and rejection. If you are exporting scrap from the UK to India, we make sure your cargo meets all required compliance standards before it ships.
UK Yard and Site Inspections
Most DGFT inspections take place at the scrap yard during loading or immediately before container sealing. Our surveyors attend sites throughout England, Wales, and Scotland, covering major processing regions including the Midlands, North West, Yorkshire, South Wales, Essex, and the South Coast. We work around yard schedules and vessel cut-off times to avoid disruption to operations. Port attendance can also be arranged where required, including Felixstowe, Southampton, Liverpool, Immingham, and London Gateway.
Scrap Materials Covered
We inspect HMS 1 and 2, shredded steel, heavy melting scrap, plate and structural scrap, copper grades including Millberry and Birch or Cliff, aluminium grades including Tense and Taint or Tabor, brass, stainless steel, and mixed ferrous and non-ferrous scrap. Each inspection includes material verification, radiation screening, prohibited material checks, container confirmation prior to sealing, photographic documentation, and where required, issuance of the official Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate.
DGFT PSIC Requirements for UK Scrap Exports
The United Kingdom is recognised by the Indian DGFT as a safe country for metallic scrap exports. For shipments entering India through designated ports, a UK-issued PSIC may not be mandatory provided strict documentation and compliance conditions are met. These ports include Chennai, Tuticorin, Kandla, JNPT, Mumbai, Mundra, Krishnapatnam, Kattupalli, Hazira, Kamarajar, and Adani Gangavaram.
Even where exemptions apply, shipments must still be accompanied by a supplier or scrap yard certificate confirming the absence of radioactive or explosive materials, and all cargo is subject to radiation and safety screening upon arrival. Shipments entering through other ports, with incomplete documentation, or involving trans-shipment still require a PSIC issued in the UK. Many exporters choose to obtain a PSIC at origin to avoid delays and ensure smooth clearance. We assess each shipment individually and advise whether a PSIC is required based on route, buyer, and cargo type.
